Work to live, or live to work?


I can smile a broad, smug smile, because a fellow 'blogger has recently encountered only a fraction of the utter bollocks I have to put up with on a daily basis.

Because of what I do, I facilitate things, I make things happen for my clients so they don't have to get their hands dirty.

On any given day, I might 'liaise' with five or six people, charged as they are with that one task in their working life that they are somehow, utterly incapable of performing with any sense, notion or impression of professionalism, alacrity or accuracy.

But that’s the difference between doing a job just to pay the bills and doing a job because you love what you do...

Sometimes I wonder if my purpose is simply to be a shining example to others as how NOT to do something....

Yeah, but just like me, you love what you do.

The thing that I've learned [at long last!] is to not get wound up by the rampant idiocy.

If you come at it from the point of view that most people you're going to be dealing with are stupid, you'll see all angles and you're better prepared.

I set out with the idea that most of the people I'll be dealing with aren't going to do their job properly.

I'm rarely wrong and sadly rarely surprised to see them prove me wrong.

People that I know hate it when I talk this way, but it's the sad truth of the common work ethic these days...

That's very true.

Although I have a different take on that.

I'm a optimistic pessimist.

I make the assumption that most people will let me down one way or another, so in that sense, I'm never disappointed.

However, on those odd / rare occasions people do something that doesn't let me down in some way, it's a refreshing surprise.

I just can't express enough how confoundedly unreliable I find most people to be.

Planning anything that involves third parties is just chaos.

I literally have to go through and sit with or stand over these people to ensure that they're doing what I've asked them to do, and what I'm paying them to do .. it's that bad.

I've found that more money simply buys you a better class of idiocy.

In most cases, a verbal brief is impossible. Most people can't retain what they're being told, or if they actually commit the brief to paper, it's either factually incorrect, incomplete, the notes get lost .. you get the idea.

OK, moan over...

You know, this all just makes me want to work harder and harder at my writing so I don't have to back to that hell hole of a job of mine.

I'm pretty sure some people think I'm an idiot at times, but at least I try not to be an idiot.

I spend half my day straightening out messes of people who just don't care enough to do it right the first time, and don't care whether or not anyone else has to clean up after them. There are probably only about 10% of the entire workforce with a good work ethic, where you do a good job just for the self-satisfaction of doing it well. Don't even get me started on it!

I find getting through the day with a laugbh and a joke with work colleagues always helps shove a bad day along,and listening to music at work helps too to calm the nerves down. If I didn't have these vital things I would end up being a total idiot who doesn't know what she's doing!
