Music on the move...

Don't know how many people from Britain come through here, but if you're ever sat near the radio, in a bar or a nightclub and you hear a song that you just have to know the name of or the artist who created it, and you have your mobile with you, type 2580 -- which is straight down your keypad -- and you're away.

As soon as the call goes through, make sure your mobile has a good earful of desired tune and then wait for the text message.

The service is provided by a firm called Shazam which somehow scrubs the song sample and gives you the song title, artist name, blah, blah, blah .. it's pretty damn amazing, actually.

No, I'm not on a retainer with them, nor am I a sales guy of theirs. I've been using Shazam for years, now. It's an excellent service and rarely fails to tag a song.

So once you've tagged a song, go to their website and log in, which is accomplished by simply entering your mobile number.

Once you've signed up, you'll see a page full of all of your various tagged songs .. in my case, dozens of the buggers!

Even better is the fact that you can click on the song and buy it through Amazon. But be warned, some of the latest stuff often isn't available via mainstream services like Amazon et al.

Have fun and get tagging...

Excellent concept. Hopefully, soon (or perhaps not!), one would be able to take a picture of some stranger, and some program would be able to scour the web/public records and get the details on the fellow.

Orwellian!

Well like I say, Shazam / 2580 has been around for ages.

I can't see why an image recognition application couldn't work, I know for a fact that the technology is in place, I've spoken to a guy working on just such technology at Sheffield University...

I'm just a caring / sharing kind of guy.

What can I say? I love my fellow man .. though not literally, 'coz I'm not that way inclined.

I'll shut up now...

I use Shazam a lot.

It's great for when you're pissed as fart, your mate knows the name of the song, but there's no chance of either of you remembering the name of the song in the morning, so you tag it.

So in the morning, when you've read through all of your embarrassing, "It's only 'coz I love you!" text messages to the ex, you'll find something a little more enlightening...

The drunk me has deviously started deleting my embarrassing pissed texts on my behalf - no doubt to spare my blushes the next day but it doesn't help when said exes get in touch 'to make sure I'm okay' and I haven't the faintest idea what they're talking about. is there a version of shazam that enables you to tag shameless texts and store them on a website for you to read the next day and decide whether you still want to send them?

Bless!

Do you get all tired & emotional? That's the top euphemism for arse-holed celebrities.

You just know your ex is angling for a quick sympathy shag...

Dang you guys have too much time on your hands.. one hour, and wham! 8 comments. Similar speed on Lucretia's page too!

tired, emotional, and so twatted I am unable to remember my own name. That's roughly the state i need to be in before i start to think my exes weren't that mean/stupid/crap in bed after all...

3:14 pm
Blogger Wayne Smallman said...

Mean in bed? Now you've just got to explain that...

God, what a horrid thought. All take and no give maybe... no, I meant mean as in, well, tight fisted (no innuendo intended). Like the guy who took me out to dinner then asked whether i would mind paying for it because he figured I earned a higher salary (which I did... but surely that's not the point??)

Now hang on a minute!

So what is the point, pray tell?

Woman love the 21st century and all of the trappings of progressive thinking that come with it .. so long as they're at an advantage and they don't have to stick their hands in the purses...

Blogger zuzula said...

No, that's not what I meant. I always, always pay my way. but I'm not in the habit of inviting people to places that I can't afford to take them to.

Blogger Wayne Smallman said...

Now I'm being mean to you! ;-)

Sorry, I was just winding you up...

you touched a raw nerve there - am a very principled woman when it comes to equality! forgiven... as long as you're not mean in bed ;)

Oh, I can assure you, I'm very giving...

What was the point of this 'blog post again?

And to think the two of us should be working right now.

How naughty!

Best that I don't have your instant message address. You'd never get any work done...

Ah yes - Shazam! Boy that feels like ages ago... sorry for hijacking. ;)

I have a confession to make. I am an IM virgin. Don't have it, don't really know that much about it... old fashioned email (and now blogging!) is the only way I know how to communicate. Think I can just about remember how to have a face-to-face conversation... nah. it's been too long...

I think we might have scared everyone else off, but i'm not complaining...

*whispers* oops, sorry ;)

*clears throat* So anyway, Shazam - great gadget, yes? :)

Nice weather, too.

Not too mild, but favourable...

ah, indeed. Can't beat a sturdily bracing wind and frequent downpours.

shit, we're off topic already! I give up... I'm going to get a cup of tea. And maybe even a biscuit. yum.

And as this blatant round of flirtatious nonsense draws to a close, the scores are as follows:

Pretty shitty Mondays 0 - 11 Harmless fun and frolics

Common sense and reason P - P Adulthood and attention to work

Match abandoned due to poor attendance...

Meanwhile, back on-topic, Zuzula!

Hi Gindy!

If you go to the Shazam website, you'll see a list of supported countries.

I don't think America has made the cut, yet...

I'm staying out of this!

We have the same type of service here with certain providers, but it may be just a tad bit cooler...
You hold the phone up and you then receive a text message to your phone with the song title and artist info.

1:40 pm
Blogger Wayne Smallman said...

Yes, I didn't explain things properly.

You do receive a text message first, listing all of the song details.

It's up to you whether you go on-line and view / buy the song...
